Blazers Fall to Bison

Dudley, MA – The Elms College men's volleyball team dropped their non-conference road battle to Nichols College yesterday evening, 3-1. 

THE BASICS:

SCORE: Elms 1 | Nichols 3 (25-22, 24-26, 25-27, 26-28)

RECORDS: Elms (4-3, 2-0 GNAC) Nichols (5-2, 0-0 NECC)

 HOW IT HAPPENED: 

The first set was a back-and-forth battle as the teams remained tied at 19-19. The Blazers went up 21-19 on a service ace from Luis Martinez. A trio of kills from Carlos Mercado sealed the set 25-22. The second set again remained close before the Blazers saw themselves at a 19-24 disadvantage. A string of Bison errors brought them Blazers even at 24-24 before a pair of Bison kills closed out the set. The Blazers fell 24-26. The third set saw another late tie at 24-24 before the Blazers fell 25-27. The fourth set was more back-and-forth action before a pair of Mecado kills put the Blazers up 23-21. The Bison would not go easily as they fought off 3 set-points before an ace by Collin Liedke gave the Blazers a 26-25 advantage. The Blazers fell 26-28 and 1-3 in the match.

 

The match featured 32 total ties and 13 lead changes. 

 

 INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Mercado led the Blazers with 17 kills and added 4 aces, 11 digs, and 2 blocks.

Martinez led the offense with 29 assists and added 2 aces, 8 digs, and 5 kills. 

Antonio Delgado Rolon led the defense with 12 digs and added one ace and 7 kills. 

The Blazers hit a match-high  .462 in the first set and .194 for the match.
