Blazers Pick Up GNAC Win Over Regis

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College men's volleyball team picked up another GNAC win over Regis College tonight, winning 3-0. 

THE BASICS:

SCORE: Elms 3 | Regis(25-19, 25-20, 25-20)

RECORDS: Elms (4-2, 2-0 GNAC), Regis (3-4, 0-3 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Elms took an early four-point lead at 10-6 in the opening set before the Pride put together a 6-2 scoring run to tie the set at 12-12. After dropping to a 14-15 disadvantage, the Blazers put together a 7-2 scoring run, capped by a kill from Carlos Mercado. Despite a late push from the Pride, the Blazers closed out the first set with four straight points, capped by kills from Antonio Delgado and Pedro Dejesus. Elms won the set 25-19 and led the match 1-0.

The second set featured 14 ties and five lead changes, with Regis taking a 16-15 lead midway throught the set after a block. The Blazers answered by scoring the next four points, featuring consecutive service aces from Moose Perry. The Blazers went on to close the set on a 5-1 scoring run featuring a pair of kills from Mercado. Elms won the set 25-20 and led the match 2-0.

The Blazers game out hot in the third set and went on a 7-2 scoring run to open a 10-6 advantage. A pair of kills from Mercado gave Elms a 16-14 lead. Elms scored five straight points, led by Perry with two solo blocks and a pair of kills, to bring about match point, 24-17. Regis extended the match to 20-24, but the Blazers closed out the set and the match on a kill by Mercado. Elms won the set 25-20 and the match 3-0.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Mercado led all players with 14 kills and 10 digs while also adding 1 aces, and 2 blocks. 

Luis Martinez led all players with 30 assists and added 2 aces and 5 digs.

Perry led all players with 4 blocks and added 2 aces and 8 kills, hitting at a .333 clip. 

The Blazers hit a match-high .367 in the third set and .256 for the match.
