Howdeshell Named Head Coach of Men’s Volleyball

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College Athletic Department has announced Torie Howdeshell as its new head coach for Men's Volleyball.

Howdeshell comes fresh off a graduate assistant stint at Western New England University where they went 14-20 (COVID-19 year) overall, 2-6 in CCC play, and coached two All-CCC Selections.

"Torie is a fantastic addition to our already talented Blazer Athletic Family Coaching Staff as our new varsity Men's Volleyball Coach," commented Director of Athletics, Dr. Michael Theulen. "After a stellar career as a volleyball standout at Western New England University, she has developed into an impactful professional with a very strong coaching and recruiting background.  These abilities make her a great match to continue the excellence that has long been associated with our men's volleyball program."

Prior to her return to WNE, Howdeshell served as the women's volleyball assistant coach at Saint Anselm College. While with the Hawks, they went 33-25 overall, 15-13 in the NE10 and coached seven All-NE10 selections. Saint Anselm also achieved program firsts with Howdeshell on staff and reached back-to-back NE10 Semifinal matches and made back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances. Howdeshell served as Assistant Game Coordinator at Saint Anselm for her second year at the Hilltop as well. Prior to Saint Anselm, Howdeshell coached for one season as the Assistant Men's Volleyball Coach at Lehman College where they went 15-11 overall, 6-2 in CUNYAC play, and coached 4 All-CUNYAC selections.

Howdeshell had this about joining the Blazers, "I'm thankful to Coach T for giving me the opportunity to establish the program in a new conference and excited to coach a dynamic and strong group of players. I can't wait to get onto the court and see what this opportunity brings!"

Howdeshell was a three-year member of the Western New England volleyball team and was on the second team in program history to compete for a conference championship. She graduated from WNE with a B.S. in neuroscience in 2017 and an M.S. in Sports Leadership and Coaching in 2021.
