Torres Named NECC Player, Rookie of the Week

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – One week after earning AVCA Division III Player of the Week honors, Elms College men’s volleyball freshman Jeremy Torres (Juncos, P.R.) earned New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors, the league announced on Monday.

Monday’s recognition is the first weekly honor handed out by the NECC this season, and takes into account all games played over the last two weeks.

The outside hitter has gotten his collegiate career off to a blazing start, tallying 107 kills with a .282 hitting percentage. He is averaging 4.12 kills and 1.85 digs per set through seven matches, helping the Blazers to a 5-2 record.

Torres already has two matches with 20 or more kills, including a season-high 26 kills in a five-set win over Johnson & Wales. He has 10 or more kills in each of Elms’ seven contests this season.

The Blazers will be home for a pair of matches this week, with the 2018 home-opener against Sage on Jan. 31 and the NECC opener against Eastern Nazarene on Feb. 3. Both matches begin at 7:00 p.m.
