Torres Earns Second NECC Rookie Of The Week Honor

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Elms College freshman Jeremy Torres (Juncos, P.R.) was selected as the New England Collegiate Conference Men’s Volleyball Rookie of the Week for games played March 12-18, the league announced on Monday.

Torres hit .538 for the week as the Blazers picked up a pair of 3-0 wins to improve to 13-4 on the season and 5-1 in the NECC. He finished with 16 kills on the week, averaging 4.00 kills per set. He also averaged 2.25 digs per set, 1.00 service aces per set, and 1.00 blocks per set.

The honor adds to a growing list for Torres and the Blazers this season. Torres has already been named the AVCA National Player of the Week (Jan. 23), NECC Player of the Week (Jan. 29) and NECC Rookie of the Week (Jan. 29). Two of his Blazer teammates have also picked up NECC Rookie of the Week status this season, as Jake Johnson earned the honor on Feb. 5 and Martin Acevedo earned the same recognition on Feb. 26.

The Blazers visit Lesley on March 21 before a pair of monumental contests, hosting national No. 1 Springfield on March 22 and NECC top dog Endicott on March 27 with significant conference standing implications on the line.
