Endicott Ends Elms' Win-Streak

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Elms College men's volleyball team had its three-match winning streak snapped Saturday when Endicott dealt the Blazers their first New England Collegiate Conference loss, 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-23) setback.

Gabriel Levy had a team-high 10 kills without an error to hit .667 in the match for Elms. Jovanny Torres added nine kills and Martin Acevedo added six, but no other Blazer hit better than .222. Torres also tallied a team-best 18 assists and added 11 digs for a double-double for the Blazers. John Dunphy added 13 assists and Jeremy Torres picked up five kills and seven digs in the match.

Endicott (15-1, 6-0 NECC) dominated in the first set, hitting .480 while holding the Blazers (11-4, 4-1 NECC) to just a .040 clip. Endicott hit .307 for the match while holding Elms to a .175 hitting percentage. The Gulls also held a 38-32 lead in total digs.

After dropping a quick first set, Elms held a 20-19 lead late in the second, looking to even the match a one set apiece. The Gulls, however, picked up four of the next five points to pull ahead 23-21. After Elms pulled within one at 23-22, Endicott secured the next two points to pull ahead 2-0 in the match.

The Blazers were in good position again in the third set, leading 15-11 midway through the set. Endicott fought back to tie the set at 18-18, but Elms picked up the next two points to lead 20-18. The Gulls then responded with three straight points to take a 21-20 lead before Elms tied the set at 21-21. After ties at 20, 21, 22, and 23, the Gulls got two straight points to earn the 25-23 win and 3-0 match victory.

Donovan Dey led Endicott with 11 kills while Seth Braquet added seven while hitting a team-best .600.

The Blazers open a three-match home-stand on March 13 when Newbury College visits Picknelly Arena.
