Men's Volleyball Sweeps Pair To Open SUNY Poly Invite

MARCY, N.Y. – The Elms College men's volleyball team opened the 2018 season with a pair of wins on the opening day of the SUNY Poly Invitational, taking a 3-1 win over Nazareth before beating Johnson & Wales on Friday.

The Blazers dropped the first set to Nazareth, 25-19, before taking the final three, including two nail-biters, 25-16, 25-23 and 26-24.

Martin Acevedo led Elms against Nazareth (1-1), finishing with 17 kills and a .355 hitting percentage. Jeremy Torres added 14 kills and nine digs for the Blazers, while Audrye Alejandro added a team-best 15 digs.

The Blazers (2-0) closed out the day with a victory over Johnson & Wales. Torres finished with 26 kills and 13 digs against JWU while John Dunphy racked up 61 assists. Acevedo had 19 kills and eight digs for the Blazers.

Elms wraps up the tournament with two more matches on Saturday, facing Rivier and Wells.
