Men's Volleyball Wraps SUNY-Poly Tourney With Split

MARCY, N.Y. – The Elms College men's volleyball team wrapped up the 2016 SUNY-Polytechnic Tournament defeating Sage College, 3-1 (25-16, 25-19, 14-25, 25-19), followed by a five-set battle against host SUNY-Poly, falling to the Wildcats, 3-2 (28-30, 11-25, 25-19, 25-21, 12-15). With the split, the Blazers move to 2-2 on the season.

In a four-set victory over Sage, senior Angel Castro (Carolina, Puerto Rico) racked up a match-high 13 kills with three digs, three service aces, and two blocks. Sophomore Gabriel Reis Levy (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) tallied 11 kills with a team-high four digs and three blocks. Sophomore Daniel Bondarovsky (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) added seven kills, four assists, two aces, and two digs. Freshman John Dunphy (Farmington, Conn.) dished out a match-high 36 assists, while junior Qua'Sean Crowe (Stamford, Conn.) chipped in four kills and three blocks in the win.

During the five-set battle against host SUNY-Poly, three Blazers registered double-digit kill totals, paced by Bondarovsky and Castro with a team-high 13 kills apiece. Bondarovsky added a match-high seven blocks with five assists and five digs, while Castro had a match-high eight digs and three aces. Reis Levy hammered 12 kills with five digs, and Dunphy set a new career-high with 43 assists to go with six digs and two aces. Junior Austin DeCosmo (Southwick, Mass.) chipped in six kills, two digs, and two blocks.

The Blazers will return to action with their 2016 home opener against City College of New York Tuesday night at Picknelly Arena at 7:00 p.m.
