Men's Volleyball Sweep Day Two of SUNYIT Tourney

MARCY, N.Y. - The Elms College men's volleyball team registered their first victories of the 2015 campaign on the final day of action at the SUNYIT Tournament, hosted by SUNYIT at Wildcat Field House, over the weekend. The Blazers began the day with a 3-1 (30-28, 29-27, 25-14, 25-15) win over Mount Ida, followed by a 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-18) victory over Bard College.

In a four-set battle with Mount Ida, the Blazers and Mustangs played to extra points in the first two sets, each team taking a set. Elms captured the final two sets in convincing fashion to secure the 3-1 win. Freshman Daniel Bondarovsky (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) led the Blazers offensively with a team-high nine kills with four blocks. Freshman Gabriel Reis Levy (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) had eight kills, four digs, and two blocks, while sophomore Austin DeCosmo (Southwick, Mass.) recorded seven kills, four digs and two blocks. Junior Roger Conklin (Chicopee, Mass.) snared a team-high seven digs in the win.


Against Bard, the Blazers fought off the Raptors for a 25-20 win in the first set, before crusing to a 25-13 win in the second set, and capped off with a 25-18 victory for their first sweep of the season. Reis Levy smashed a game-high 12 kills with three blocks and two service aces. Bondarovsky chipped in six kills, while DeCosmo had five kills. Conklin doled out a career-high 20 assists, and sophomore Dervin Dimanche (Queens, N.Y.) totaled a game-high five blocks.


The Blazers even their record to 2-2 on the season, while Mount Ida dropped to 0-3, and Bard fell to 0-3 overall. Elms returns to the court with a rematch against the Raptors at Bard College Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
