Men's Volleyball Drops Pair in Season Opener

CHICOPEE, Mass. -  The Elms College men's basketball team dropped a doubleheader in their first action of the 2015 season, participating in the SUNYIT tournament Friday night. The Blazers fell to D'Youville in five sets, 3-2 (25-21, 19-25, 25-18, 13-25, 18-25), then slipped in a three-setter to Nazareth (14-25, 11-25, 21-25).

In a five-set battle with D'Youville, the Blazers held a 2-1 lead heading into the fourth set, before D'Youville rallied to captured the final two games. Freshman Gabriel Reis Levy (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) posted his first career double-double, smashing a team-high 14 kills with a team-high 13 digs and two service aces. Senior Kevin Welsh (Wilbraham, Mass.) dished out a game-high 30 assists with a block, while freshman Daniel Bondarovsky (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) tallied nine kills, six digs, and three blocks.

Against Nazareth, Bondarovsky recorded a team-high five kills and two digs, while Reis Levy had four kills and three digs. Junior Roger Conklin (Chicopee, Mass.) registered a team-high seven assists and a team-high four digs. 

The Blazers open the season at 0-2, while D'Youville moved to 1-1 and Nazareth moved to 3-0. Elms will return to action with a pair of matches on the final day of the tournament. The Blazers play Mount Ida at 11:00 a.m., followed by a duel with Bard at 1:00 p.m.
