Emmanuel College Sweeps by Men’s Volleyball, 3-0

BOSTON, Mass. – Elms College senior middle hitter Bryson Rainey (Brookline, Mass.) tied for the match-high in kills with eight and junior middle hitter Angel Castro (Carolina, Puerto Rico) added six kills, but Emmanuel College hit a collective .452 for the contest and Sean Baxley (Saint James, N.Y.) dished out 31 assists to help the Saints stake a 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-10) sweep of the Blazers in Saturday afternoon's non-conference men's volleyball match in Boston, Mass.  

With the loss, Elms moves to 2-7 on the season, while Emmanuel improves to 2-2 overall.

Freshman outside hitter Ian Isgut (San Juan, Puerto Rico) added four kills in the losing effort for the Blazers, while senior setter Kevin Welsh (Wilbraham, Mass.) dished out 19 assists. Rainey and Castro led Elms in digs with four each, while Rainey also had a pair of service aces.

Emmanuel was efficient on offense, led by Ashanti Jackson's (Sacramento, Calif.) eight kills. Austin Cockerill (Darien, Conn.) followed with seven kills, while Drew Jordan (Braintree, Mass.) and Ryan Kessler (Santa Clarita, Calif.) downed six kills each.

Baxley led all diggers with five, Ernie Gurule (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Cockerill chipped in four digs and four service aces to help spark the Saints to victory.

Wyatt Cooper (Ridgefield, Conn.) swung at an impressive .833 clip notching five kills on six attempts with zero errors, while Garrett McGarry (Chicago, Ill.) added five kills on seven swings with just one misfire (.538).  

Elms returns to non-conference play on Wednesday, February 12 when it hosts Springfield College at 6:00 p.m. at Picknelly Arena.
