Men’s Volleyball Falls to Vassar College 3-0, Ramapo College, 3-0

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Elms College men's volleyball team fell to Vassar College, 3-0 (25-9, 25-11, 25-13) and lost to Ramapo College, 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-21) during Saturday afternoon's men's volleyball tri-match hosted by the Brewers at Kenyon Hall.

With the loss, Elms moves to 2-5 on the season. Vassar improves to 1-3 overall and Ramapo improves to 4-2 on the season.

Vassar 3, Elms 0

Against Vassar, Elms was led by junior middle hitter Angel Castro (Carolina, Puerto Rico) who notched five kills, while senior middle hitter Bryson Rainey (Brookline, Mass.) and freshman outside hitter Ian Isgut (San Juan, Puerto Rico) registered four kills each. Isgut also led the squad in digs with five, followed by four from Rainey.

Senior setter Kevin Welsh (Wilbraham, Mass.) handed out 13 assists in the losing effort.

Vassar was led by Erik Halberg (Newark, Del.) and Christian Lizana (Dublin, Pa.) who totaled nine and eight kills respectively to lead the Brewers who hit .483 as a team.

Quinn Rutledge (Chesterfield, Va.) led the charge with 22 assists, while Colin White-Dzuro (Toronto, Ontario) added six assists. Reno Kriz (Breinigsville, Pa.) floored five of Vassar's 13 aces and Colin Peros (Honolulu, Hawaii) notched five digs in the win.

Ramapo 3, Elms 0

Against Ramapo, Rainey led the Blazers with 13 kills while Castro followed with seven kills and Isgut with four kills. Welsh dished out 21 helpers joined Castro, Rainey, sophomore libero Roger Conklin (Chicopee, Mass.) and senior outside hitter Kordel Latimer (Lynn, Mass.) with five digs.

Isgut led the team with seven digs in the losing effort, while Castro and Latimer each had a solo block.

Ramapo used a match-high 16 kill effort Ahjon Petty (Piscataway, N.J.), while Chris Sidnam (Smithtown, N.Y.) added nine kills. Kurt MacDonald (Monroe Township, N.J.) recorded a match-high nine digs and Andrew Balint (East Brunswick, N.J.) distributed 33 assists to help seal the victory.

Brian Colabella (Upper Montclair, N.J.) chipped in seven digs and the Roadrunners hit at a collective .268 clip for the contest.

Elms returns to action on Wednesday, February 5 when it opens New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action at Regis College at 7:00 p.m. in Weston, Mass.
