Men’s Volleyball Splits Day Two Action of SUNY IT Invitational

MARCY, N.Y. – The Elms College men's volleyball posted a day two split at the SUNY IT Invitational following a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Mount Ida College before falling 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-16) to Hilbert College on Saturday afternoon.

With the split, Elms moves to 2-2 on the season.

Elms 3, Mount Ida 2

In the first match, Mount Ida posted a 2-0 lead in the match before the Blazers stormed back to win the next three sets and secure a thrilling, come-from-behind 3-2 victory over the Mustangs.

Hilbert 3, Elms 0 

In Elms' loss to Hilbert, junior middle hitter Angel Castro (Carolina, Puerto Rico) and senior middle hitter Bryson Rainey (Brookline, Mass.) floored eight kills each while senior setter Kevin Welsh (Wilbraham, Mass.) distributed 21 assists as the Blazers hit a collective .213 in the contest.

Castro, senior outside hitter Kordel Latimer (Lynn, Mass.), sophomore libero Roger Conklin (Chicopee, Mass.) and freshman outside hitter Ian Isgut (San Juan, Puerto Rico) each totaled two digs in the losing effort.

Hilbert was led by Adam Weaver (Stow, Ohio) who smashed a match-high 24 kills and hit at a staggering .594 clip.

Elms returns to action on Wednesday, January 29 when it hosts Bard College in its 2014 home-opener at 7:00 p.m. at Picknelly Arena.
