Men’s Volleyball Downs Cazenovia College, 3-0, Falls to D’Youville College, 3-1

MARCY, N.Y. – The Elms College men's volleyball team posted a 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-19) victory over Cazenovia College before falling 3-1 (25-20, 25-10, 20-25, 25-20) to D'Youville College in day one action of the season-opening SUNY IT Invitational on Friday evening in Marcy, N.Y.

With the split, Elms begins its season 1-1 overall and returns to invitational action on Saturday, January 25 at 12:00 p.m. against Mount Ida College and will take on Hilbert College at 2:00 p.m.

Elms 3, Cazenovia 0

Against Cazenovia, senior middle hitter Bryson Rainey (Brookline, Mass.) and senior outside hitter Kordel Latimer (Lynn, Mass.) led the Blazers with a match-high 11 kills each, while senior setter Kevin Welsh (Wilbraham, Mass.) dished out a match-best 27 assists to help Elms complete the sweep.

Latimer added a team-best three digs and Rainey notched three service aces, Welsh added five kills and freshman middle hitter Austin DeCosmos (Tolland, Mass.) knocked down four kills.

Conor Scholefield (Utica, N.Y.) led Cazenovia with nine kills while Devin Purcell (Cobleskill, N.Y.) added 11 assists in the losing effort.

D'Youville 3, Elms  1

Against D'Youville Rainey led the Blazers with 16 kills, Latimer added seven kills, and freshman outside hitter Ian Isgut (San Juan, Puerto Rico) chipped in six kills. Sophomore libero Roger Conklin (Chicopee, Mass.) and Isgut each notched four digs, while Welsh handed out 30 assists.
