Men’s Volleyball Falls to Emmanuel College, 3-0

BEVERLY, Mass. – Elms College junior middle hitter Bryson Rainey (Brookline, Mass.) floored a team-high 10 kills and junior setter Kevin Welsh (Wilbraham, Mass.) totaled 31 assists but Emmanuel College used a match-best, 19-kill effort from Barrett Wingard (Dallastown, Pa.) to help the Saints post a 3-0 (25-10, 25-17, 28-26) victory in Sunday morning's non-conference men's volleyball match during day two of the Endicott College March Mania tournament at the Post Center in Beverly, Mass.

With the loss, Elms moves to 9-11 overall, while Emmanuel improves to 8-10 on the season.

After falling behind 2-0 in the contest, Elms stormed back in the third set as neither side recorded more than a four-point lead throughout the frame. With the score set at 25-25, Rainey smashed a kill to give Elms set point, but Wingard answered with a kill of his own to knot the match at 26-26. A kill by Emmanuel's Wyatt Cooper (Ridgefield, Conn.) gave the saints match-point and Cooper sealed the win with a solo block to complete the sweep.

Blazers' freshman outside hitter Jeff Vautrin (Chicopee, Mass.) finished with eight kills and senior outside hitter Stephen Cameron (Newington, Conn.) chipped in seven kills to pace Elms in defeat.

Cameron and junior libero Daniel Lebron (San Juan, Puerto Rico) added seven digs apiece.

Zach Whitermore (Whitehall, Pa.) tallied nine kills behind Wingard's 19, and Ryan Kessler (Santa Clarita, Calif.) and Cooper contributed seven kills each for the Saints, while Sean Baxley (Saint James, N.Y.) dished out 43 assists.
