Men’s Volleyball Sweeps Past Regis College, 3-0

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College senior outside hitter Stephen Cameron (Newington, Conn.) and freshman outside hitter Jeff Vautrin (Chicopee, Mass.) each downed a match-high seven kills to help the Blazers to a 3-0 (25-10, 25-6, 25-15) sweep of Regis College in Saturday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's volleyball match at Picknelly Arena.

With the win, Elms improves to 9-6 overall, 3-2 in NECC action, while Regis moves to 1-7 overall, 1-4 in NECC play.

Elms hit .444 for the match led by Cameron's and Vautrin's seven kills. Junior setter Kevin Welsh (Wilbraham, Mass.) directed the attack with 28 assists, spreading the wealth as freshman outside hitter Aleksandr Kuzmenko (Chicopee, Mass.) finished with six kills, while junior middle hitter Bryson Rainey (Brookline, Mass.) and sophomore middle hitter Angel Castro (Carolina, Puerto Rico) added five kills each.

Cameron led the defensive efforts with six digs, followed by five from Vautrin who was also spectacular in the service game with seven aces.

Regis was led by Joe Coye (Plaistow, N.H.) who downed four kills and Dan Berdichevsky (Wayland, Mass.) who totaled three kills.

Setter Angel Aguilar (Silver Springs, Md.) dished out seven assists, while Alex Caliendo (Windsor, Conn.) dug a team-best four balls in the losing effort.
