Men’s Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match With Regis College, Wentworth Institute of Technology

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College sophomore Daniel Lebron (San Juan, Puerto Rico) registered 10 kills and 10 digs against Regis College and handed out 51 assists against Wentworth Institute of Technology to help lift the Blazers to a sweep in Saturday afternoon's men's volleyball tri-match at Picknelly Arena.

Elms (17-6, 8-2 NECC) topped Regis, 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-16) in the opening match, and Wentworth swept the Pride (25-13, 25-8, 25-8) in the second match. The Blazers bested Wentworth, 3-2  (18-25, 25-17, 22-25, 25-19, 15-11). Wentworth is now 12-12 on the season, while Regis falls to 1-17, 0-11 NECC overall.

Elms 3, Regis 0

In the opening contest, Elms' sophomore setter Kevin Welsh (Wilbraham, Mass.) paced the Blazers to a .304 hitting percentage, highlighted by 10 kills each from Lebron, senior middle hitter Yonalvy Acosta (Holyoke, Mass.) and freshman opposite hitter Nicholas Green (Ware, Mass.).

Lebron added eight service aces and 10 digs, sophomore outside hitter Kordel Latimer (Lynn, Mass.) notched eight digs and freshman outside hitter Timothy Frappier (Wilbraham, Mass.) collected six digs in the winning effort.

Drew Wilder (Brockton, Mass.) led Regis with four kills, while David Amicangioli (Belmont, Mass.) dished out 11 assists and notched a team-high eight digs in the losing effort.  

Wentworth 3, Regis 0

Mike Buonincontra (Shelton, Conn.) paced Wentworth to a sweep of Regis, handing out 26 assists to help the Leopards record a .459 hitting percentage.

Ross Burdett (Needham, Mass.) and Brian Mann (East Freetown, Mass.) chipped in nine and eight kills each, while Rick Pignataro (Wilbraham, Mass.) amassed eight digs in the win.

Andrew Carroll (Natick, Mass.) finished with four kills, while Amicangioli registered 10 assists.

Elms 3, Wentworth 2

Lebron helped the Blazers complete a thrilling five-set victory, distributing 51 assists to four players who recorded double-digit kills. Freshman middle hitter Angel Castro (Carolina, Puerto Rico) floored a match-high 16 kills followed by junior outside hitter Stephen Cameron's (Newington, Conn.) 14. Sophomore middle hitter Bryson Rainey (Brookline, Mass.) and senior outside hitter Carlos DeLeon (Carolina, Puerto Rico) tallied 12 and 10 kills respectively.

DeLeon and Cameron notched 12 and 10 digs each, while Castro and Rainey added five assisted blocks each.

The Leopards were led by Burdett's 15 kills, while Rami Akouri (Fall River, Mass.) followed with eight. Tyler Moriarty (Wilbraham, Mass.) added 33 assists and 10 digs, while Pignataro secured a match-best 13 digs.

Elms returns to NECC action on Thursday, April 5 with a 7:00 p.m. contest at Southern Vermont College.
