Men’s Volleyball Downs Lesley University, 3-0

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College senior outside hitter Carlos DeLeon (Carolina, Puerto Rico) smashed a match-high nine kills and the Blazers hit .380 as a team to help lift Elms to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-12) in Saturday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's volleyball match at Picknelly Arena.

With the win Elms improves to 13-6 overall, 5-2 in NECC play, while Lesley falls to 2-13 overall, 2-7 in conference action.  

DeLeon added six digs and seven service aces to his nine kills, while junior outside hitter Stephen Cameron (Newington, Conn.) and sophomore middle hitter Bryson Rainey (Brookline, Mass.) added six kills each in the winning effort.

Rainey registered a team-high seven digs, while sophomore setters Kevin Welsh (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Daniel Lebron (San Juan, Puerto Rico) distributed 19 and nine assists respectively.

Lesley's Max Hoevenaar (Orlando, Fla.) led the Lynx with five kills and seven digs, while Brian Hicks (Lowell, Mass.) added four kills in the loss.

Melvin Morales (Chelsea, Mass.) paced the Lynx attack with 11 assists, Alex Zhitnik (West Hartford, Conn.) added seven digs and Christian Domingo (Los Angeles, Calif.) finished with six digs.  

In the opening set, Elms floored 12 kills with just one error to notch a stellar .647 hitting percentage in the first frame.

As a team the Blazers downed 14 service aces and notched three total blocks to help seal the win.

Elms returns to league play with an 11:00 a.m. match at Newbury College on Sunday, March 25 in Brookline, Mass.
