Men’s Volleyball Sweeps Past Bard College, 3-0

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College senior outside hitter Carlos DeLeon (Carolina, Puerto Rico) and sophomore middle hitter Bryson Rainey (Brookline, Mass.) each smashed a match-high seven kills to help propel the Blazers to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 26-24) sweep of Bard College in Saturday afternoon's non-conference men's volleyball match at Picknelly Arena.

With the win, Elms improves to 10-5 on the season, while Bard slides to 7-10 overall. Elms and Bard have now split the season series as the Raptors posted a 3-2 victory on Jan. 28 in the season-opener at the SUNY Institute of Technology (IT) tournament.

Elms had even distribution throughout the match as sophomore setter Daniel Lebron (San Juan, Puerto Rico) distributed 27 assists. Lebron added three service aces and six digs as well as a solo block and two assisted blocks, while DeLeon registered four aces and four digs.

Freshman middle hitter Angel Castro (Carolina, Puerto Rico) floored six kills on 17 swings with no errors (.353) and added five digs and a pair of assisted blocks, while junior outside hitter Stephen Cameron (Newington, Conn.) collected four kills and 12 digs.

Senior outside hitter Yonalvy Acosta (Holyoke, Mass.) finished with five kills, five digs and two assisted blocks, while Rainey tallied a match-high 13 digs to go along with his seven kills in the winning effort.

Bard was led by Nick Chan (Victor, N.Y.) who collected a team-high six kills and a team-best eight digs. Eliah Gardner (Chatham, N.Y.) added five kills and four digs, while Ryan Fallon (Ridgewood, N.Y.) was the Raptors' most efficient attacker, downing four kills on seven attempts with just one misfire (.429).

Henry Kasiske (Los Angeles, Calif.) directed the offense with 17 assists, two solo blocks and two assisted blocks, and added six digs, while Alex Sicurella (San Francisco, Calif.) totaled seven digs in the losing effort.

Elms returns to non-conference action on Tuesday, March 6 with a 7:00 p.m. match at Johnson & Wales University.
