Men’s Volleyball Splits Day Two Action at MIT Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Elms College men's volleyball team split day two action at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Invitational topping Emerson College, 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-20) before falling 3-2 (25-22, 25-14, 22-25, 26-28, 15-12) to Johnson & Wales University on Sunday afternoon in Cambridge, Mass.

Blazers' sophomore setter Daniel Lebron (San Juan, Puerto Rico) was named to the invitational's all-tournament team and Elms now stands at 8-3 on the season.

Against Emerson, junior outside hitter Stephen Cameron (Newington, Conn.) and sophomore middle hitter Bryson Rainey (Brookline, Mass.) smashed 10 kills apiece, while senior outside hitters Yonalvy Acosta (Holyoke, Mass.) and Carlos DeLeon (Carolina, Puerto Rico) struck for nine and seven kills respectively.

Lebron paced the squad with 39 assists as the Blazers hit a staggering .416 for the match.

DeLeon led the team with 13 digs, while Rainey chipped in 10.

In the five-set loss to Johnson & Wales, Rainey finished with 15 kills, while DeLeon followed with 10 kills.

Acosta and freshman middle hitter Angel Castro (Carolina, Puerto Rico) tabbed nine kills apiece and Cameron followed with eight to round out Elms' hitters, while Lebron dished out 48 assists.

DeLeon led three players with double-digit digs (19), followed by Castro's 15 and Cameron's 11.

Elms returns to non-conference action on Wednesday, Feb. 15 when it hosts No. 5 MIT at 7:00 p.m. at Picknelly Arena.
