Men's Volleyball Falls To Newbury College, 3-1

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO NEWBURY COLLEGE, 3-1

CHICOPEE, MA, Jan. 31, 2009- Elms College sophomore outside hitter Alberto Bravo (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) and Newbury College junior middle hitter Mark Thomas (Wilbraham, MA) each recorded a game-high 21 kills, but it was Newbury College who was able to hold on to earn a 3-1 (30-22, 30-32, 30-27, 30-26) victory over the Blazers in Saturday night's North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) New England Division men's volleyball match at the Maguire Center.

The Blazers lost third straight match and fell to 2-6 overall, 1-2 NECVA New England.  The Nighthawks improved to 7-1 on the season, 1-0 NECVA New England.

Newbury received tremendous efforts from senior outside hitter Bryan McDermand (Palatine, IL) and sophomore setter Matt Talamantes (Sylmar, CA).  McDermand registered 11 digs and 20 kills, including a game-high eight kills in the fourth set, while Talamantes dished a game high 60 assists, 17 of which came in the second set.

Elms College freshman outside hitter Sequiel Sanchez Velez (San Sebastian, Puerto Rico) had 17 kills and 11 digs in the losing effort.

Elms College returns to action on Wednesday, February 4 at Rivier College.  Match time is 7:00 p.m.
