Men's Volleyball Tops Lesley, 3-0

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL TOPS LESLEY, 3-0

CHICOPEE, MA, Jan. 20, 2009 - Elms College junior setter Ivan Andujar (Carolina, Puerto Rico) handed out a match-high 19 assists and the Blazers hit .489 en route to a 3-0 (30-15, 30-4, 30-9) men's volleyball win over Lesley University in Tuesday night's North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) New England Division match at the Maguire Center.

Elms College won its second straight to improve to 2-3 overall, 1-0 NECVA New England. Lesley (0-1, 0-1 NECVA New England) lost its 2009 opener. The Blazers also improved to 7-0 all-time against the Lynx with Tuesday night's victory.

After winning the first set 30-15, the Blazers scored the first eight points of the second set then used a 17-1 run later in the set to take a two-set lead in the match. In that second set, freshman middle hitter Harry Sebastian Perez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) converted six kills on all six swings.

The Blazers then hit a sizzling .706 (12-0-17) in the third set to seal the victory.

Perez finished with a match-high seven kills and freshman libero Jesus Echevarria (San Juan, Puerto Rico) recorded a match-high six digs in the winning effort.

Senior setter Clayton Janer (Guilford, CT) registered a team-high 11 assists and sophomore outside hitter Stephen Siragusa (Valley Stream, NY) scored five kills for the Lynx in the losing effort.

Elms College returns to NECVA New England Division play when it hosts Endicott College on Thursday, January 22. Match time is 7:00 p.m.
