POUGHKEEPSIE, NY, Feb. 20, 2009 - Elms College sophomore outside hitter Alberto Bravo (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) connected for a combined 25 kills in two matches, but the Blazers fell 3-0 to both Nazareth and Philadelphia Biblical in the first night of the Vassar Invitational men's volleyball tournament at Poughkeepsie, New York.

Elms College (7-9) overall saw its season-high, five-match win streak snapped as it lost to Nazareth in the first match of the night by set scores of 30-26, 38-36, 35-33. The Blazers then fell to Philadephia Biblical 30-25, 30-22, 30-25.

Bravo notched a team-high 12 kills against Nazareth then added 13 more against Philadelphia Biblical.

Junior setter Ivan Andujar (Carolina, Puerto Rico) handed out a combined 75 assists on the night in the losing effort.

Elms College returns to action for two matches at the Vassar Invitational on Saturday, February 21, as the Blazers will face defending Molten Division III national runner-up Vassar at 10:00 a.m. then conclude the tournament with a 12:00 p.m. match against Johnson & Wales.
