MENS VOLLEYBALL DROPS TWO AT SEASON-OPENING HAWKS TOURNAMENT
NEW PALTZ, NY, Jan. 16, 2009 - Elms College sophomore outside hitter Alberto Bravo (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) hammered down a combined 29 kills, but the Blazers fell 3-0 to Eastern Mennonite and 3-1 to Emmanuel in non-conference men's volleyball action at the Hawks Tournament hosted by New Paltz on Friday night.
Bravo recorded a team-high 19 kills against Eastern Mennonite then added 10 more in the loss to Emmanuel.
In the loss to Eastern Mennonite, freshman middle hitter Vincent Cruz (Harwinton, CT) was impressive in his collegiate debut, as he knocked down 11 kills and added four total blocks, while freshman libero Jesus Echevarria (San Juan, Puerto Rico) registered 12 digs.
In the Blazers' loss to Emmanuel, senior outside hitter Marc Carrasco (Safford, AZ) recorded a team-high 17 kills, had nine digs and a block solo.
The Blazers (0-2) return to action at the Hawks Tournament on Saturday, January 17 at 11:00 a.m.
