MEN'S VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS LESLEY, 3-0
CAMBRIDGE, MA, Feb. 10, 2009- Elms College freshmen outside hitters Yonalvy Acosta (Holyoke, MA), Sequiel Sanchez Velez (San Sebastian, Puerto Rico) and sophomore outside hitter Alberto Bravo (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) all tallied seven kills apiece to pace the Blazers to a 3-0 (30-15, 30-13, 30-8) win over Lesley University in Tuesday night's North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) New England Division match at the BB&N Gymnasium.
The Blazers won their second straight and improved to 4-7 overall, 3-2 NECVA New England. Lesley remained winless at 0-9, 0-5 NECVA.
The Blazers hit .516 (19-3-31) in the first set, .381 (11-3-21) in the second and .692 (10-1-13) in the third en route to the 75-minute sweep.
Freshman middle hitter Vincent Cruz (Harwinton, CT) added six kills, hit .667 and added a match-high five total blocks, while junior setter Ivan Andujar (Carolina, Puerto Rico) handed out a match-high 30 assists for the Blazers, who remained unbeaten in eight all-time meetings dating back to 2006.
Elms College returns to non-conference play when it hosts Wentworth and Lasell in a tri-match at the Maguire on Saturday, February 14.
