CHICOPEE, MA, Feb. 21, 2009 - Elms College sophomore outside hitter Alberto Bravo (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) hammered down 45 kills and earned All-Tournament Team honors as the Blazers earned a split of two non-conference men's volleyball matches in Saturday's Vassar Invitational at Poughkeepsie, New York.

The Blazers (8-10) dropped a five-set, heartbreaker to No. 3 Vassar 3-2 (31-29, 24-30, 28-30, 30-27, 13-15), but responded with a 3-0 (30-16, 30-25, 30-28) win over Johnson & Wales University.

In the loss to Vassar, Bravo registered the third 30-plus kill match of his career, as he led all players with 36 kills and hit a sizzling .537.

Freshman outside hitter Sequiel Sanchez Velez (San Sebastian, Puerto Rico) added 21 kills 16 digs and five blocks, senior libero Marc Carrasco (Tucson, AZ) scooped up 20 digs and freshman setter Jesus Echevarria (San Juan, Puerto Rico) handed out a collegiate career-high 54 assists.

In the win over Johnson & Wales, Sanchez Velez knocked down a team-high 15 kills, Echevarria and junior setter Ivan Andujar (Carolina, Puerto Rico) combined for 36 assists, Bravo added nine kills and hit .438 and sophomore outside hitter Carlos DeLeon-Gomez (Carolina, Puerto Rico) recorded a team-high 12 digs.

Elms College returns to North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) New England Division play at Newbury on Thursday, February 26. Match time is 7:00 p.m.
