How it Happened

Back at home, the Blazers were looking to pick up a win against the AMCATS of Anna Maria College. Anna Maria wasted no time getting on the board, as they were aggressive early, and were rewarded when Rubelsi Moran scored the first goal of the game. Down 1-0 early, the Blazers had to keep the AMCATS from putting the game out of reach. Colin Liedke (Newington, CT) saved the next couple of shots to keep Elms in the game. Elms could not get much going offensively during the first half, and went into the break down 1-0.

At the beginning of the second half, both teams were in an even battle for possession. The Blazers offense couldn't get going, but the defense still remained strong, taking some of the pressure off Liedke. During the last 20 minutes of the game, the Blazers got the breakthrough they've been waiting to have all match. First, Jimmy Maznicki scored off of his own header that kissed the crossbar to right footing it passed the goalkeeper to tie the game 1-1. Maznicki has been everywhere for the Blazers all year, always contributing on scoring plays and shows great poise controlling the field of play. Liedke came up with a big save to keep the game tied 1-1. Maznicki almost had another goal to win the game, but was silenced with a tremendous save by the AMCATS goalie. With 10 seconds left in the game Maznicki lined up a free kick from outside the box, Emanuel Monge timed his jump perfectly and headed the game winning goal for the Blazers.

The Blazers walked away with a 2-1 win, and a crucial 3 points in the standings.
