How it Happened

On the road, the Blazers were looking to add some more points to their record to gain ground in the playoff standings. Early on in the game, goalie Colin Liedke (Newington, CT) got his money's worth. New England College fired shot after shot at him, but Liedke stayed strong, coming up with save after save in net. Elms got a couple of shots off on the Pilgrims, but their defense was under constant pressure, forcing Liedke to work for his saves. It paid off, and at the half it was tied nil-nil.

The second half was nothing short of action packed. Elms struck first right after the half opened up, as Jacobo Molina Ferrer (Valencia, Spain) assisted Brandyn Costa (Palmer, MA) to put Elms up 1-0. Liedke Kept up with his lock down defense in the Elms' goal, keeping the 1-0 lead. Jimmy Maznicki (Ellington, CT) came close to putting Elms up 2-0, but his shot was saved by the Pilgrims goalie, Hayden Walker. In the 72nd minute, Elms committed a crucial foul that led to a penalty kick. William Scala lined up and hit the back of the net, turning the heat up on the Blazers making it a 1-1 match. The Pilgrims struck again three minutes later, as Anthony Aguiar put them ahead 2-1. Elms was not done though. Molina Ferrer has been big in crucial moments this season for the Blazers, and proved it again yesterday when he scored off a well placed assist from Maznicki to tie the game at 2-2.

In the 89th minute, with the game about to end, Elms committed a fatal foul, setting Scala up again for a free shot on goal, leading to the same result as prior in the game. Scala scored, winning the game for New England College off of a penalty kick, sending Elms home with a heartbreaking 3-2 loss.
