Elms Falls in First Conference Matchup

CHICOPEE, MA - Men's Soccer drop their first conference match on Tuesday night against the Mitchell College Mariners, falling 2-0 for the final.

How it Happened

The Blazers came out aggressively, intent on making their mark early. Even though a couple early shots missed the net, it was encouraging for the Blazers to be on the offensive half of the field. Midway through the first half, that changed, as Mitchell started to creep into the Elms defensive side of the field. After about six minutes of trying to score, Nicholas Ghirardi scored to put Mitchell up 1-0 early on in the game. Facing another early deficit, Elms was in a tough spot.  They were awarded a scoring opportunity from a penalty kick, but Musa Jiana's (Chicopee, MA) shot was saved late in the half, leaving the Blazers without a goal, and a 1-0 halftime deficit. 

When the second half started, Jiana gave the Blazers everything he had. Flying all over the field and firing two shots on net, he did everything he could to get the Blazers back in the game. At the sixty four minute mark Gianmarco Delacruz scored for Mitchell, putting them up 2-0. With little time left to spare, Elms didn't get enough pressure on the Mitchell defensive half to threaten to score, and ended up falling to Mitchell 2-0.
