HOW IT HAPPENED

You could tell by the intensity of play that it was going to be a very competitive game. Blazers goalie Colin Liedke came up with three important saves in the first seven minutes of the game to keep the game tied. Hoping for a chance to score their first goal of the year, Elms was awarded a penalty kick off of a Westfield State foul. Jacobo Molina Fesser (Valencia, Spain) stepped up, and took the shot on net, only to be saved by Westfield States' Luke Theroux. A couple of minutes later however, the owls scored their first goal to go up 1-0. The Blazers had more opportunities on offense, as they took shots on Theroux, but couldn't find the back of the net. Feeling confidence from their defense, Westfield State bombarded the Blazers with shot after shot, eventually scoring again to go up 2-0 before half.

To start the second half, Elms once again tried to assert themselves on the offensive end, but early shots by Alain Sitchet Njanko (Raleigh, NC) and Molina Fesser were saved, resulting in nothing for the Blazers. Playing from behind and determined to try to produce a goal, the Blazers started to play more aggressively. However, multiple yellow cards were drawn, and Carter Herbert from Westfield State scored the final goal of the game to go up 3-0. Still hopeful to have more success on offense, substitutions were made to try to put pressure on the Owls and result in a possible goal for Elms. When the final whistle was blown, the Owls came out on top 3-0.
