Late Goal Downs Blazers in Home Opener

Chicopee, MA - The Elms College Men's Soccer team lost their first game of the season as the Fitchburg State Falcons swooped in for a last minute goal with minutes to spare on the game clock.

The Basics:

Score: Elms 0 / Fitchburg State 1

Records: Elms(0-1-0)    Fitchburg State (1-0-0)

How it Happened:

The Blazers defense started the season off strong, especially Colin Liedke (Newington, CT), as he made four quick saves in a short span in the first half to keep the game even at 0-0. Fitchburg State kept the pressure on throughout the first half, firing shot after shot, only for them to be repeatedly saved by Liedke. With very little time on offense, Elms remained tied 0-0 at half with Fitchburg State.

Fitchburg State came out in the second half just as aggressive as the first half, controlling possession time, and mounting attacks toward the Elms net. Elms tried to do all they could to defend for the tie, but in the 87th minute, Liam Evans from Fitchburg State scored their first goal of the game. This late goal proved costly to the Blazers, as when the final whistle blew, Fitchburg State had come out on top 1-0.
