Blazers Take Down Owls on Senior Day

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College men's soccer team was victorious in their non-conference game against Westfield State University yesterday evening 2-0, for their Senior Day.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Elms College sophomore forward Musa Jiana (Birkama, Gambia) scored a pair of second half goals as the Blazers defeated Westfield State.

At the 54th minute, Jiana netted his team-leading eighth goal of the season to pad the lead.

Collin Liedke (Newington, Conn.) stopped all four shots on net to preserve the shutout.

The Blazers out-shot the Owls 15-6 while also holding the advantage in shots on net (11-4). Elms also added four corner kicks to Westfield State's two.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Pedro Duarte, Alex Szarkowski, Justin Szwajkowski and Devon Polletta all had shots on goal.
- Musa Jiana scored two goals
- Collin Liedke made 4 saves

FROM THE DESK OF COACH WYSOCKI:
"We're pleased with the result, but we're happier with the performance. We started a bit flat but eventually found our footing and really dominated possession and created some great opportunities. The backs held strong and posted the clean sheet, and we scored two great team goals to cap off a successful night. And to pair that with the celebration of our seniors on the night of their last home game, is a special thing. This group was my first ever recruiting class, and we've experienced a lot together. It's great to see them get the result tonight, but there's no mistaking what the real job is ahead of us. One more non-conference match on Saturday before looking forward to the game that will decide the date of our season. We have a few more days to prepare for a do or die situation, and we will be ready."

UP NEXT:
- The Blazers are on the road Saturday 10/23 in non-conference play against Rhode Island College, for a 4PM start.
