Lesley Downs Men’s Soccer, 7-3

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College scored three second half goals but a pair of goals from Lesley University's Ari Sinanis (Guilford, Conn.) lifted the Lynx to a 7-3 win over the Blazers in Saturday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's soccer game at Leary Field.

With the loss, Elms moves to 0-9-1 overall, 0-2 in NECC action while Lesley improves to 10-1 overall, 2-0 in league play.

Sinanis put Lesley ahead 1-0 in the ninth minute of play before Nick Mattox (Pasadena, Md.) scored on an assist from Ali Sozeri (Istanbul, Turkey) to extend the lead to 2-0 at the 16:23 mark.

Sinanis struck for his second goal of the game in the 21st minute when Sozeri and Mattox executed a run down the field that allowed Sinanis to find the back of the net giving the Lynx a 3-0 advantage.

Yair Correa (Pawtucket, R.I.) and Joseph Petit (Salem, Mass.) each added a score at the 34:46 and 37:33 marks respectively to give Lesley a 5-0 cushion at intermission.

Ahmed Abubakar (Springfield, Va.) delivered the squad's sixth goal of the contest at the 56:07 mark before Elms answered when senior defender Chris Silva (Chicopee, Mass.) connected with Nzigamasa Jonathan (Springfield, Mass.) who drove the ball past the keeper to set the score at 6-1 at the 59:44 mark.

Freshman midfielder Brendan Reed (East Longmeadow, Mass.) pulled the Blazers to within four when he boomed a direct kick into the back of the net in the 66th minute of play.

In the 74th minute, sophomore forward Tavish Leland (Bridgton, Maine) corralled a pass from freshman midfielder Adam O'Grady (Somers, Conn.) and scored the Blazers' third goal in a row to cut Elms' deficit in half at 6-3.

Petit capped the scoring for the contest when he netted his second goal of the game to lift the score to 7-3 with seven minutes remaining.

Blazers' starting junior goalkeeper Ryan Sullivan (Agawam, Mass.) recorded a pair of saves before leaving the game due to injury. Junior Jonathan Coyne (East Longmeadow, Mass.) entered in relief and turned away five shots in a stellar showing between the pipes.

Elms returns to NECC action on Wednesday, Oct. 6 when it hosts Mitchell College for a 7:00 p.m. contest at Leary Field.
