Men's Lacrosse Sink Mariners for First GNAC Victory

NEW LONDON, CT - The Elms College Men's Lacrosse team traveled to Mitchell College in conference action Saturday afternoon.

BASICS
Score: Elms College 15 | Mitchell College 5
Records: Blazers 2-3, 1-1 (GNAC) | Mariners 0-3, 0-2 (GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The first quarter would see the two opposing sides contest for possession, but first-year Luciano Jordan Canino (Dalton, MA) would score the opening goal of the contest. Shortly after, Mitchell would take the lead with back-to-back goals. Then sophomore Tosh Marshall (Sylvan Lake, AB, Canada) would tie the game before the end of the first quarter. The second quarter would be a different narrative for the Blazers. First-year Ethan Menard (West Springfield, MA) would find an open Canio to take the lead. Menard would then go on to score three straight goals, then was followed by an unassisted goal by first-year Nicky Miltenberger (Ridge, NY). Elms would go into the halftime break with a 7-2 lead.

As the second half began, Canino would score two early goals to extend the Blazers lead 9-2. The Mariners would respond with a goal of their own, but Canino would add another goal to the Elms lead, followed by additional goals by Marshall and junior Matthew Salerno (Campbell Hall, NY). Mitchell would be the first to score in the fourth quarter, but Canino would score two more goals, finishing with seven total, and Menard would score for a second time on the day. The Mariners would score one more time, but it would be too late, as Elms would defeat Mitchell to secure the 15-5 win as well as win their first conference game as a program and as a member of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Canio would score seven goals and pick up five ground balls.

  • First-year Casey Dmochowski (Rutland, MA) faced ten shots, saving six, while also recording a ground ball.

  • Miltenberger added 15 ground balls, a goal, and two assists to his season totals and would go 16-19 in faceoffs.
