Blazers Grounded by Blue Jays in Last Home Game

CHICOPEE, MA - The Elms College Men's Basketball team lost a conference matchup against the University of Saint Joseph (CT) at home Saturday afternoon in Picknelly Arena.

BASICS
Score: Elms College 68 | University of Saint Joseph (CT) 101

Records: Blazers 4-20, 2-10 (GNAC) | Blue Jays 19-4, 12-0 (GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Elms kept pace with Saint Joseph early, matching the scoring total. Junior Aaron Sanchez (the Bronx, NY) and sophomore RJ Mayfield (Springfield, MA) carried the scoring load early by hitting contested jump shots. A pair of free throws from graduate student Tahquell Cadle (Bridgeport, CT) cut the Blue Jays lead to just three-points with 12 minutes left in the first half. The Blazers got within a point a handful of times, as their offense stymied the Blue Jays for a couple minutes during the first half, but were unable to pull ahead and take a lead. The Blazers played great defense in the first half, limiting Saint Joseph to four three-pointers and five offensive rebounds. The Blue Jays extended their lead out to double digits late in the first half, as their precision on offense and strength was too much for the Blazers. Sophomore Edgardo Jacob Cancel (Northampton, MA) and Cadle would both hit  jump shots to trim the Elms deficit to 47-39 at half.

In the second half, Elms was overwhelmed by Saint Joseph. The Blazers were unable to defend against the Blue Jays coming out of the half, as Saint Joseph scored at will. The Blazers found themselves down 20-points pretty early on in the half, and did not have enough offense to get themselves back in the game. The Blue Jays scored easily at the basket and played great tough defense, taking the Blazers out of their gameplan. In the last game for the Blazers at Picknelly Arena this season, they would fall 101-68 to Saint Joseph.
