Blazers Fall to Cadets on the Road

CHICOPEE, MA - The Elms College Men's Basketball team lost a conference matchup against Norwich on the road Tuesday night.

BASICS
Score: Elms College 56 | Norwich University 85

Records: Blazers (4-17, 2-7 GNAC) | Cadets(13-7, 5-4 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Norwich started the game off strong, taking a double-digit lead within the opening six minutes of the game. Elms regrouped as senior Teron Griffin (Harlem, NY) and junior Aaron Sanchez hit some tough baskets to get the Blazers back in the game. The Blazers failed to close the gap within 8, as the Cadets went on another scoring run to go back up by double digits. Elms had no answer for Norwich defensively, as they fell behind by 18 points early. The Blazers were able to make a couple contributions from other players to try and stay in the game, but the Cadets continued to fire away on offense on all cylinders. Norwich did a great job during the first half in shutting down graduate student Tahquell Cadle (Bridgeport, CT), who only managed 2 points at halftime, which was a big contributing factor to the Blazers 43-28 deficit at the half.

Sanchez and Griffin relied on their offense to cut the Norwich lead to 9 early on in the second half. A three-pointer from sophomore RJ Mayfield (Springfield, MA) cut into the Norwich lead even more, but the Cadets responded by going on another scoring run. Griffin scored a couple of baskets to keep the Blazers in the game as the half went on, but Elms couldn't get a stop defensively. The Cadets scored at will and exploited the Blazers problems in the defensive half court. Norwich went up by 20 plus points late, and closed out the game with an 85-56 win over Elms.
