HOW IT HAPPENED

The matchup would begin with the two opponents trading possession of the ball until senior Teron Griffin (Harlem, NY) scored the first basket of the game, for either team, with a layup. A minute later, Griffin would connect with sophomore Jake Midura (Chicopee, MA) for a three-point shot to increase the Blazers lead. The Pilgrims would respond with two baskets of their own, but Midura and Griffin would each make three-pointers to bring the score to 11-6. Minutes later, sophomore Michael Chiodo (Woburn, MA) would make a jump shot, senior Neilon Bridgeman (Brooklyn, NY) followed him by making a layup, and Midura would sink three three-point shots. A couple of minutes later, junior Addison Phifer (Hadley, MA) would make a three-pointer of his own, bringing the lead to 31-19 over NEC. The Pilgrims would continue to narrow the Blazers lead, but Phifer would close out the half with a layup and a score of 35-24.

NEC would start the second half with an unanswered eight points, until Elms made two free throws and a layup from junior Aaron Sanchez. Seconds later, sophomore RJ Mayfield (Springfield, MA) would make a steal which would lead to a three-point shot from Griffin and a minute later, another three-pointer was made by Midura. The Blazers would continue to follow their defensive structure, Elms would gain possession and Midura would sink another three-point shot. As the quarter moved along, the Pilgrims would slowly make points, trying to eat away at the Blazers lead. But graduate student Tahquell Cadle (Bridgeport, CT) would make back-to-back three-pointers, bringing the lead to 63-45. A couple minutes later, Chiodo would find an open Mayfield for a three-point shot of his own. NEC would continue to make shots, trying to earn a lead, but a three-pointer from Midura and a layup from Cadle would secure the game for Elms.
