HOW IT HAPPENED

The Blazers started the game with a three-pointer from junior Aaron Sanchez (assisted by senior Teron Griffin (Harlem, NY)). Moments later, sophomore Jake Midura (Chicopee, MA) would make a three-pointer of his own (assisted by graduate student Tahquell Cadel (Bridgeport, CT)). The Mariners would then gain the lead from Elms until sophomore Edgardo Jacob Cancel (Northampton, MA) sank his own three-pointer taking a one point lead. Mitchell would regain the lead soon after and the two sides would trade the lead back and forth. Later in the half, Mitchell was leading 27-23 until sophomore RJ Mayfield (Springfield, MA) drilled a three-pointer (assisted by Cadel) bringing the score to 27-26. Elms would close out the half with a pair of layups from Sanchez and junior Kishaun Cole (Sleepy Hollow, NY), as well as a pair of free throws from Sanchez, giving the Blazers a 38-36 lead at halftime.

The second half began with the Mariners tying the game up at 38 points a piece, but Mayfield would make a layup to put the Blazers up by two. The teams would continue to exchange the lead until Mitchell had a ten-point lead over Elms. The Blazers continued their efforts to earn back the lead, including three-pointers by Cadel, junior Ferai Zuvaradoka (Dracut, MA), and first year Jaiden Lopez (Lebanon, CT), but Mitchell would come out as the victors of the contest with a final score of 80-66.
