How it happened

For the second day of the Sig Makofski Invitational at Union the Blazers challenged the Hartwick Hawks. The Hawks jumped early on the offensive end building up a 13-4 lead just five minutes into the game. Despite the Blazers slow start on Sunday afternoon they quickly turned the play around and made it into a one possession game for the final 9 minutes of the first half. Hartwick would never give up the lead to the Blazers closing out the first twenty minutes of play

In the second half, the Blazers did not let up as they continuously challenged the Hawks for the lead. With the game tied 56-56 with just under eight minutes in the game Tahquell Cadle caused a turnover collecting the steal for an easy two point quick transition layup lifting the Blazers to a 58-56 lead, their first lead of the game. The Blazers held onto the lead, keeping the hawks to a two possession difference for the final minutes. Hartwick was not settling and under a minute in the game the Hawks were able to draw a foul off of a rebound to send Cooper Francis to the line for two free shots. Francis cashed in oneof the two, making it a one point game with thirty seconds remaining on the game clock (71-70 Blazers). Due to a turnover by the Blazers set the Hawks up with an easy two point jumper lifted them past the Blazers, 72-71. Elms would quickly call for a timeout to conjure up a play to get them to the line or a basket to lift them to victory with only one second remaining on the clock. The Blazers were left unsuccessful and closed out the game falling to the Hawks, 72-71 for the final.
