How it Happened

Mount Holyoke came to Elms ready to play. Jayonna Montgomery fired seven shots, as the Lyons were aiming to strike early against the Blazers. Kaitlyn Lynes (South Hadley, MA) was strong in net, but Montgomery finally put one in the back up the cage, giving the Lyons a 1-0 lead at the end of the first 15. The Lyons struck again early in the second quarter, as the Blazers defense had to exert all its energy now to keep their 2-0 deficit from ballooning. Elms looked like they were going to go into the half only down 2-0, but Laurissa Montigny scored, giving the Lyons a 3-0 advantage after the first half.

The Blazers settled in during the second half. Along with strong goalie play from Lynes, Elms applied their first offensive pressure of the night. Due to a Lyons defender the Blazers were granted a penalty stroke opportunity. Samantha Bonneau took the stroke for the Blazers, but was saved by the Lyons keeper Rachel Katzenburg, keeping the score at 3-0 in favor of Mount Holyoke. Bonneau kept up her aggressiveness in the fourth quarter, but was blanked by Lyons goalie. Montigny scored late for the Lyons, giving them the 4-0 win over the Blazers.
