Chicopee, MA - The Elms Blazers field hockey team was defeated by Western Connecticut State University 3-1, in non-conference play at Leary Field yesterday evening.

THE BASICS

SCORE: Elms 1 | Western Connecticut State University 3

RECORDS: Elms (4-8-0, 3-4-0 GNAC) | Western Connecticut State University (6-6, 3-4 LEC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The visiting Colonials got on the board late in the opening quarter when sophomore Sydney Chenoweth found the back of the net. WestConn stretched the lead to 2-0 when senior Nora Swift took a pass from classmate Alessia Callahan.

The Blazers countered quickly with a goal of their own from grad student Carissa Ramirez (San Diego, CA), setting the count at 2-1 heading into halftime.

WestConn would tack on an insurance goal early in the fourth from junior Sophie Leeds.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

FROM THE DESK OF COACH LAPAR:
"Fun, fast paced game. Tough loss, big game wins. Concepts we have been working on and talking through as a team happened in our game against WestConn. Despite the 3-1 loss this game felt like a team win, we were able to keep the ball in our attacking end for what felt like the majority of the game. Unfortunately, WestConn was able to capitalize on their opportunities and we were not. We will have a good mental practice today. Will go over options to help us create more scoring opportunities and how to finish. We continue to add the pieces to our puzzle to make sure we are going in strong for our last four conference games of the regular season!"
