SCORE: Elms 1 | Colby-Sawyer 2
RECORDS: Elms (0-1-0, 0-1-0 GNAC) | Colby-Sawyer (1-0-0, 1-0-0 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Each team provided stout defense in the first quarter, only allowing each other to get one shot each. In the second, Elms saw one opportunity to get on the board, while Colby-Sawyer saw five. Heading into halftime, both teams had yet to break through and score.

In the second half, at the 40th minute, the Chargers broke the silence and got on the board. With under five minutes left in the game, senior Halie Shea (Windsor Locks, CT) scored off a deflected assist from junior transfer, Melanie Ward (Wilbraham, MA) to tie the game. Back and forth the teams went in the fourth, neither attempted a shot in the period.

The Blazers fought through 8 minutes of overtime, until Aofie Daly scored and gave the Chargers their first victory of the season.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-Victoria Accorsi, Katie Jones, Carissa Ramirez and Halie Shea each saw one shot. Melanie Ward saw two.

-Nora Newman finished the day with ten saves.

FROM THE DESK OF COACH LAPAR:

"I could not be more proud of the team. We have been talking a lot about resilience lately. What does it look like to win small battles on the field and show resilient effort? You can't predict what your first Fall 2021 home opener, conference game on brand new turf will look like, but it was just short of what I would want it to be for our team. It's tough to lose in overtime, but this is adding fuel to our fire! We know we can't stop here and be satisfied. There were great moments and now more great moments to learn off of and build from. All eyes on Saturday!"

UP NEXT:

- The Blazers are back on Leary this weekend for a conference matchup against Albertus Magnus College for a 12PM start.
