Baseball Storms Past Colby-Sawyer

NEW LONDON, NH - The Elms College Baseball team traveled to Colby-Sawyer College for a conference matchup on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Elms would have senior Kyle Sebastyanski (Auburn, MA) start for Elms in the conference matchup. Sebastyanski would pitch three innings with three strikeouts, two scoreless innings, but allowed three runs and six hits in the afternoon. Elms would get on the board first in the top of the second inning, after first-year Griffen Levesque (Agawam, MA) hit a single to left field, driving in junior George Chaya Jr. (Methuen, MA) to give the Blazers an early 1-0 lead. In the top of the third inning, Josh Nohilly (Bristol, CT) would hit a home run to right center field to extend their lead. Junior Henry Rondon (Ansonia, CT) would come in to pitch in the fourth inning, where he threw six strikeouts in his five innings pitched. Then in the bottom half of the inning, Colby-Sawyer would take the lead after scoring three runs in the inning. The two sides would go scoreless until the top of the sixth inning when Elms would score six runs to take back the lead. Levesque would come up to hit a two-run single, scoring seniors Justin Miller (Prospect, CT) and CJ Moriarty (Glastonbury, CT) and putting Chaya Jr. on third base. During the next at bat, Chaya Jr. would score on a wild pitch while Levesque advanced to third after previously stealing second. Senior AJ Cook (Mendon, MA) would reach first base on an error and would drive in Levesque for the fourth run of the inning. Later in the inning, graduate student Tyler Galenski (Wilbraham, MA) would double to left field and that would drive in Cook and graduate student Josh Pasini (Enfield, CT) to give the Blazers an 8-3 lead. The Chargers would score two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, but Elms would respond in the top of the eighth inning after a two-run home run by Pasini and an RBI-single by junior Blake Bastos (Mineola, NY) to secure the conference victory for the Blazers, 11-5.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Pasini: three hits, a home run, two runs batted in, and two runs scored.

  • Levesque: two hits, three runs batted in, and one run scored.

  • Rondon: six strikeouts and four scoreless innings.

UP NEXT: The Elms Baseball team will travel to nearby Western New England University in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday, April 17th at 3:30 PM.
