Baseball Picks Up Second Straight Win Against Lesley

HOLYOKE, MA - The Elms College Baseball team hosted the Lesley University Lynx in a non-conference game Tuesday night at Mackenzie Stadium.

BASICS
Score: Elms College 5 | Lesley University 2
Record: Blazers 10-9, 1-1 (GNAC) | Lynx 6-7, 0-0 (NAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Elms threatened to score early in the game multiple times, and in the bottom of the second inning broke through. With two men on base, first-year Griffen Levesque (Agawam, MA) drove in junior George Chaya Jr. (Methuen, MA) and senior Justin Miller (Prospect, CT) to put Elms up 2-0 early. The Blazers got some more support from sophomore pitcher Colby Arnold (Waterford, CT), who pitched seven innings, only allowing two hits. This would help Elms build on to their lead, as in the bottom third inning, senior AJ Cook (Mendon, MA) recorded an RBI double to put the Blazers ahead 3-0. The Blazers also scored in the bottom fourth after a Lesley throwing error, giving them another run to go up 4-0. Elms continued to pitch and defend well, preventing the Lynx from getting on base and cutting into the Blazers lead. Lesley finally got on the board in the top of the seventh, courtesy of an RBI double in an attempt to cut into the Blazers lead. However, in the bottom of the seventh, senior Seamus Higgins (Rutland, MA) recorded an RBI single to give the Blazers their four run lead back, as they led 5-1. Lesley scored again on a fielder's choice in the top eighth, but their comeback bid was far too late. The Blazers got out of the inning, and the game, winning 5-2.
