Blazers Go to Extras Against Johnson & Wales

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Elms College Baseball team faced off against the Johnson & Wales University Wildcats for their conference opener Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Elms would have senior Kyle Sebastyanski (Auburn, MA) start their first conference matchup of the 2024 season. Sebastyanski would pitch six innings, five scoreless, with four strikeouts and only allowing one run and four hits in the afternoon. The Wildcats would get on the board first with an RBI-single hit to center field in the third inning. In the top of the fifth inning, first-year Eliel Colon (Springfield, MA) would hit a single down the right field line which would bring in first-year Griffen Levesque (Agawam, MA) to tie the score 1-1. In the bottom eighth inning, senior Vinny Buono (Springfield, MA) would throw a swinging strikeout which was followed by a throw down from graduate student Tyler Galenski (Wilbraham, MA) to Levesque to catch the runner attempting to steal second base for a double play. The two teams would continue to play scoreless baseball, and the game would be forced into extra innings. In the bottom of the eleventh inning, Johnson & Wales would hit a walk-off two-run home run off of Buono to end the game with a 1-3 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Buon: four innings pitched with two strikeouts.
