HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
The Blazers started off the game strong, as graduate student Tyler Galenski (Wilbraham, MA)  homered in the bottom of the first inning to give the Blazers a 1-0 lead right at the start of the game. The Blazers played great defensively behind the pitching of junior Henry Rondon (Ansonia, CT), as he struck out three batters in the third and fourth inning. In the bottom of the fourth inning, senior Seamus Higgins (Rutland, MA) batted in a run to put the Blazers up 2-0, and senior AJ Cook (Mendon, MA) recorded a sacrifice fly to give the Blazers a 3-0 lead going into the fifth. Rondon continued to pitch well, and the Blazers defense remained strong, giving them a 3-0 win in the first game of the doubleheader for their first win of the 2024 season.

Game 2
Elms could not get their offense going in the first two innings, and Chatham made a statement in the bottom of the second inning. The Cougars scored most of their runs on a two-run single and a two-run double. A couple of wild pitches thrown by sophomore Ross Tine (Wethersfield, CT) allowed the Cougars to score a couple more runs, and Chatham went into the third inning up 9-0. The Blazers offense could not get much going, as Chatham's pitching didn't allow the Blazers to record any hits. However, in the top of the fourth, a Justin Miller (Prospect, CT) RBI single and a Blake Bastos (Minelo, NY) RBI got the Blazers on the board. In the bottom half of the 4th, Chatham scored on a sacrifice fly, extending their lead to 10-2. The Blazers left Cook stranded on third in the fifth inning, losing an opportunity to add some more runs to close the deficit. It was a tough hitting game for the Blazers, but not for Chatham, as in the bottom of the 6th, the Cougars scored off of a 2 run home run to extend their lead to 12-2. In the top of the 7th inning, the Blazers received some life on offense, as Cook recorded a two-run single to drive in two runners, and junior Camron Watkins (East Haddam, CT) would follow him by hitting a two-run home run. Elms fell in the second game 12-5, but their offense looked promising if they can be consistent.

UP NEXT: The Blazers will be back in action in Florida again on Monday March 4, with a doubleheader at 4:30 and 7:00 P.M. against Thomas College (ME).
