Strong Pitching Leads Blazers to Split with Lakeland

AUBURNDALE, FL – The Elms College Men's Baseball Team used some stellar pitching to earn a split in their doubleheader with Lakeland University Tuesday at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

Game One

THE BASICS:

SCORE: Elms 4 | Lakeland 1
RECORDS: Elms (2-3-0) | Lakeland (4-3-0)

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Blazers and Muskies played a pair of low-scoring games, including Elms winning the opening game of the twin-bill 4-1, and dropping game 2, 1-0.

Elms got the better of the Muskies in the first game with a pair of early two-run innings and a strong pitching performance from Austin Roy, who threw a complete game and only allowed three hits with three strikeouts.

The Blazers scored first with a two-run single by Seamus Higgins in the second inning and added two unearned runs in the second inning, with an RBI single by Tyler Galenski and another run scoring on a two-out error.

 

 

Game Two

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Game two was a pitcher's duel that had both teams struggling at the plate. The Blazers and Muskies only combined for 7 total hits and 1 run. First year Henry Rondon shined for Elms on the mound in his first collegiate start, going 6.1 strong innings before giving up a run in the top of the 7th. The Blazer offense had 1st and 2nd with only 1 out in the bottom of the frame but were not able to get anyone across the plate.
