Baseball Opens 2022 with Split vs Chatham

DAVENPORT, FL The Elms College Baseball Team split its double header with Chatham University in their first action of the season, losing game one 11-3 and winning game two 5-2 on Friday afternoon.

Game 1

THE BASICS:

SCORE: Elms 3 | Chatham 11
RECORDS: Elms (0-1-0) | Chatham (5-0-0)


HOW IT HAPPENED:
It was all Chatham in game one, with the Cougars scoring in each of the first four innings. The Blazers could only muster 4 hits in game one. First year Georg Chaya (Methuen, MA) picked up 2 RBI's for Elms.

Josh Guilmartin (East Granby, CT) started for the Blazers and pitched 4 innings. Ethan Sgalata (Ellington, CT) and Matt Miranda (Killingworth ,CT) came in for 3 combined innings of relief.

 

GAME 2

 THE BASICS:

SCORE: Elms 5 | Chatham 2
RECORDS: Elms (1-1-0) | Chatham (5-1-0)

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Game two was a much different story from the first one. Elms went out and scored the first five runs of the game, including one in the first and two in the fourth and fifth innings. Chatham scored in both the sixth and seventh innings, but the Blazers were able to hold on for their first win of the season.

 Georg Chaya (Methuen, MA) led the Blazers again with 2 hits in the game. Branden Waitt (Southwick, MA) was the winning pitcher for Elms.

 UP NEXT:

The Blazers are back in action on Sunday 3/6 in a doubleheader with Dominican (ILL) at 3:30PM and 5:30PM. Both games will have live stats.
