Blazer Baseball Picked Third In NECC Preseason Poll

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – The Elms College baseball team was picked to finish third in the New England Collegiate Conference in the fast-approaching 2018 season, the league announced Thursday.

The Blazers return a strong pitching rotation with first-team all-NECC hurlers Jacob Graveline and Matt Plasse headlining the veteran staff. Plasse was second in the NECC with a 2.89 ERA last season, while Graveline posted a 4.21 ERA and both pitchers went 5-3 on the season.

Elms finished third in the NECC last season with a 12-6 league record and an 18-20 overall mark.

Mitchell College topped the poll with 34 points after picking up four of the seven first-place votes. Lesley was just behind at 31 points followed by Elms (24), Becker (22), Newbury (15), Southern Vermont (11) and Dean (10).

The Blazers are just more than two weeks away from the season-opener, a Feb. 24 matchup at Clark University. Elms will head to Fort Myers, Fla., for an eight-game trip March 3-8 before its home-opener against Rhode Island College on March 13.
