Bio

The 1989 Elms College Field Hockey Team brought home the 1989 state title by winning the Massachusetts Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (MAIAW) Tournament. It was the eighth year that varsity field hockey had been in existence at Elms College.

In the championship game, Elms played Nichols College, and the game was close. Senior Emily Halkett, who finished her career at Elms as the all-time leading scorer with 51 career goals and 28 assists for a total of 131 points, scored off a penalty stroke to help the Blazers win 2-1.

Head coach Karen Fitzgerald and assistant coaches Lynn Wilke and Ellie Moreau led Elms to victory. The members of the championship team are Maria Renault, Laura Shepard, Kate Pichie, Christi Collins, Karyn Richter, Kelly Maloney, Jo-Ann Allaire, Chris Sadowski, Kathy Boehle, Erin Walsh, Julie Podbelski, Tricia Kelly, Cheryl Staruski, Tanya St, Germaine, Maureen McEvady, Tracy Imbruno, Amy Rezendes, Deana Nadeau, Emily Halkett, Valda Pyles, Bonnie Dowd, Katie Gustasfson, Charlene Bibinski, Collen Anuszewski, Jen Brown, and Ellen Miller (manager).
